Dr. Louise Gaston, Ph.D.Internationally acclaimed lecturer, Dr. Gaston is the founder and director of TRAUMATYS. She is an expert in trauma and psychotherapy. Since 1986, Dr. Gaston has been specializing in PTSD as a clinician and researcher. Clinical psychologist and assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University, Dr. Gaston is the author of over 40 scientific articles and book chapters, including "Dynamic Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" (1995) and "From memories of abuse to the abuse of memory" (1999). Dr. Gaston has developed two MMPI scales to assess acute and chronic PTSD in civilians. Dr. Gaston is also a leader in psychotherapy research. During her 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at UCSF, she was trained by Dr. Mardi Horowitz, author of "Stress Response Syndrome", and by Dr. Charles Marmar, ex-president of the International Society Traumatic Stress Studies. Her clinical training encompassed psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioral, cognitive, and neurophysiological approaches. Dr. Gaston is also trained in hypnosis and EMDR. Since 1990, Dr. Gaston has instructed over seventy mental health professionals in the context of a two-year training program at TRAUMATYS, in assessing and treating simple and complex PTSD, in short or long-term psychotherapy. She has conducted or supervised the treatment of over fifteen hundred individuals presenting with PTSD due to criminal acts, sexual assaults, accidents, incest, bereavement, etc. Because some cases were particularly complicated, Dr. Gaston recognized the need to further her knowledge in personality disorders. She participated in a two-year training program on diagnosis and treatment of personality disorders at the Masterson Institute, New York.
