Résumé des qualifications et expertises
Depuis 1980, Dr. Gaston pratique diverses approches psychothérapeutiques
qu'elle a apprises dans le cadre de supervisions et de formations échelonnées sur plus
de 13 années. Depuis 1986, elle diagnostique et traite des individus présentant un
Désordre de Stress Post-Traumatique (DSPT). Elle participe régulièrement aux
conférences de la "International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies". En
1990, elle a fondé une clinique spécialisée, appelée TRAUMATYS Inc. Dans le
cadre d'un programme de formation avancée, Dr. Gaston y a déjà formé plus de 70
cliniciens dans le diagnostic et le traitement des DSPT auprès de plus de 1,500
individus. Depuis 1992, Dr. Gaston travaille comme expert en DSPT. Au Canada, elle a
effectué plus de 1,000 évaluations de victimes d'actes criminels, d'accidentés du
travail, d'individus demandant un statut de réfugié et d'individus visant une
indemnisation. Elle a témoigné dans le cadre de plusieurs contextes légaux au Canada.
En 1988, Dr. Gaston a complété des études post-doctorales de 2
années portant sur les DSPT et la recherche en psychothérapie au département de
psychiatrie de l'Université de Californie à San Francisco, sous la supervision de Dr.
Mardi Horowitz, M.D., auteur de "Stress Response Syndrome", et Dr. Charles
Marmar, M.D., ex-président de la "International Society for Traumatic Stress
Studies". Elle a acquis une expertise dans le processus et l'efficacité de la
psychothérapie, tant pour la dépression que les DSPT. Par après, elle est devenue
professeur adjoint au département de psychiatrie de l'Université McGill, où elle y a
conduit plusieurs projets de recherche, dont un subventionné par le "National
Institute of Mental Health".
En tant que chercheur, Dr. Gaston a collaboré avec de nombreux
collègues dans le cadres de diverses études, et elle a participé à toutes les phases
d'une recherche clinique. Elle a élaboré et conduit deux essais cliniques. Son sujet de
recherche privilégié en psychothérapie est l'efficacité de l'alliance et de la
technique. Récemment, Dr. Gaston a développé des outils psychométriques permettant
d'évaluer les DSPT aigus et chroniques sur le MMPI.
Dr. Gaston concentre maintenant ses énergies à enseigner sur les DSPT
à travers l'Amérique du Nord. Elle pratique la psychologie clinique et psycho-légale en
Californie.
